About Aireloom: A Legacy of Luxury Sleep
Over 86 years ago, a California craftsman decided that a mattress could be art. That conviction — unchanged through eight decades — is why Aireloom remains the most revered name in luxury sleep.
Our Story
The Rolls-Royce of Mattresses, Since 1940
When King Karpen founded Aireloom in 1940, the American mattress industry was built on speed and volume. His approach was the opposite: slow down, use only the finest natural materials, employ only the most skilled craftsmen, and never compromise on a single detail. The mattress that resulted earned a comparison that has followed the brand ever since — the Rolls-Royce of mattresses.
More than 86 years later, the comparison still holds. Every Aireloom mattress is still handcrafted in California. The tools are more refined. The materials are better understood. But the foundational belief — that sleep is too important to be manufactured on an assembly line — has never changed.

"I set out to build the world's finest mattress — one that no machine could build and no competitor could copy."

Today
Over 80 Years of Uncompromised Sleep
Every Aireloom mattress is still handcrafted in California by master craftsmen. The tools are refined; the mission is unchanged — to create the finest sleep experience available to any person, anywhere.
The Hollywood Connection
The Mattress of Old Hollywood's Elite
In the 1950s, word spread through the corridors of Hollywood's great studios. Stars who spent their days performing under demanding conditions understood, perhaps more than anyone, the value of genuinely restorative sleep. They chose Aireloom.
Ronald Reagan and John Wayne were among the most prominent early adopters — public figures whose preference for Aireloom became a form of endorsement that no advertising budget could replicate. Their choice reflected something real: that the Aireloom mattress delivered a quality of sleep that was simply unavailable anywhere else.
That association with Hollywood's golden era represents more than nostalgia. It speaks to Aireloom's position as a product chosen by those with the means to own anything — and the discernment to choose the best. That position has not changed in over 86 years.

California Design Philosophy
Relaxed Luxury. California-Made.
California is not simply where Aireloom is made — it is the philosophical foundation of the brand. The California design aesthetic blends a deeply relaxed, natural sensibility with an equally deep commitment to quality and sophistication. It is a combination unique to this coast, and it is present in every mattress Aireloom produces.
The materials reflect the landscape: organic cotton from sustainable farms, natural latex from the rubber tree, wool from New Zealand's open-range ranches, and silk woven into the sleep surface. These are the materials the California environment inspires — natural, honest, and beautiful.
Aireloom remains one of the few luxury mattress brands in the world that still manufactures domestically. Choosing an Aireloom is a choice for American craftsmanship, for California heritage, and for the hands that have built every mattress since 1940.
The Artisan's Touch
Craftsmanship. Sustainability. Commitment.
Every element of the Aireloom process — from material sourcing to the final inspection — reflects a commitment to doing things the right way, not the easy way.
01
Bench-Made Craftsmanship
Each mattress is built start-to-finish by a single craftsman, not an assembly line. This ownership of the full process produces a consistency of quality that automated manufacturing cannot replicate.
02
No Chemical Adhesives
Hand-tufting holds every layer together mechanically. No bonding agents, no synthetic glues — resulting in a cleaner, more breathable, and longer-lasting construction.
03
Inspected by Hand
Before any Aireloom leaves the workshop, a senior craftsman performs a full tactile inspection — verifying tuft tension, edge uniformity, and surface consistency by touch.
04
Natural Materials Only
Silk, organic cotton, Joma Wool, and Celsion™ Latex. No polyurethane foam in the comfort layers, no synthetic batting. Natural materials that breathe, regulate, and perform naturally.
05
Tencel™ & Sustainable Sourcing
Aireloom incorporates Tencel™ lyocell fiber — derived from FSC-certified eucalyptus — in select comfort layers. Tencel™ produces 50% less CO₂ in manufacturing than conventional cotton.
06
FSC-Certified Foundations
Aireloom's box spring and foundation frames are built from Forest Stewardship Council certified wood — sourced from responsibly managed forests where harvesting is tracked and offset.
Sustainability
Natural Materials. Responsible Choices.
Aireloom's commitment to natural materials is not a marketing position — it is the core of what makes the product work. Natural latex breathes better than synthetic foam. Wool regulates temperature more effectively than polyester fill. Organic cotton is softer, stronger, and cleaner than conventionally farmed fiber. The materials are chosen for performance, and their sustainability is an inherent consequence of that choice.
Aireloom also incorporates Tencel™ lyocell — a fiber derived from FSC-certified eucalyptus wood pulp in a closed-loop production process that recycles 99% of the water and solvents used. Tencel™ is extraordinarily soft, moisture-wicking, and biodegradable — a fabric that performs as well as it is produced.
Foundation frames and support structures are built from Forest Stewardship Council certified wood — sourced from forests where harvesting is tracked, audited, and offset. Every material that enters an Aireloom is considered with the same rigor as every seam that joins them.

Our Commitment to Sleep
Not a Product. A Life-Changing Experience.
Aireloom's mission has never been to sell mattresses. It has been to change how people sleep — to give them a night of rest so complete and so restorative that they wake differently. More rested. More present. More themselves.
The Aireloom Lift™ is the mechanism of that experience. When the comfort layers float above the spring system on a column of natural air, and the Celsion™ Latex contours to your specific geometry, and the Joma Wool draws heat and moisture away from the surface — what you feel is weightlessness. It is the sensation of your body releasing the tension it carries through the day, completely and without resistance.
That feeling is what 86 years of refinement has been building toward. And it is available only in an Aireloom.
